Volunteering

Our volunteers are our most important asset and they are vital to our animals’ welfare, the operation of the shelter and success in our special events. If you would like to make a difference in our community, we would love to have you join us!

In order to be a volunteer:

  • Attend orientation
  • Be sixteen years old or older. (If you are 12-15 years old, you can volunteer with a parent or legal guardian present )
  • Be able to provide at least 30 volunteer hours in 6 months
  • Possess customer service skills
  • Support the HSTB mission, principles and policies

To get started, email our Volunteer Coordinator at volunteer@humanesocietytampa.org and sign up for the next orientation date with available seats. Please do not attend an orientation making a reservation.  Seating is limited.

The orientation is an hour and a half long.  You will learn about HSTB and where you can help.  If you are interested in working directly with the animals, you need to schedule a one-on-one training session with the volunteer coordinator the first time you volunteer.  After that you are welcome to spend time with our animals any time the shelter is open. If you are going to volunteer only for Special Events, you are not required to do the one-on-one session.

The Humane Society of Tampa Bay is dependent on our dedicated volunteers to help us take care of our animals. Every minute that you can give us helps to keep tails wagging and kitties purring. You will get a special thank you everyday from the furry faces.
